Terms of booking on this website
Information disclaimer
The rates on this website are often heavily discounted. This is due to our negotiated rates and bulk buying power. On very rare occasions, a rate may be displayed incorrectly due to our, or a vehicle supplier's error. In such a case, if you book with us at a quoted rate that is incorrect, we will notify you of any price change and give you the option to proceed or cancel. We make every effort to keep information on our site up to date, but we cannot guarantee this website is free of errors or omissions and retain the right to update or change the information published at any time.
Liability
To the extent permitted by law we/the owners of this website will not be liable to you or to any third party (whether in contract, tort, or otherwise) for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage (including but not limited to any accident, injury, delay or loss of enjoyment) arising out of your reliance upon information contained on this website, including but not limited to your use (or inability to use) any products or services described or procured through this website.
When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier’s rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.
While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.
Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed. Please note that a 1.75% credit card charge will be added when your payment is processed.
A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.
If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.
Information disclosure
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.
Amendments
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the hire is increased, an additional deposit may be required, while reduction in rental periods or price may reduce the total, but the deposit amount will remain unchanged. To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Car rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 25.00
To add or remove extras to/from a confirmed booking: 10.00
Motorhome rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 75.00
To add or remove extras to/from confirmed booking: 20.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.
Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.
Britz Campervan AU - (AU residents only) Insurance
Insurance 01 April 2008 - 31 March 2009
FOR YOUR PROTECTION – VEHICLE EXCESS
Personal injury is covered in most cases through registration third party insurance. Britz strongly recommends that all people travelling in Australia take out personal travel insurance.
All vehicles are insured for the damage to the vehicle or to the property of a third party. The hirer is responsible for the first AU$7,500 (“the excess”) of the cost of damage to third party property or to the rented vehicle, including single vehicle accident, windscreen and tyre damage, towing and recovery costs, theft, fire, break-in or vandalism with the exception of the ‘exclusions’. This also includes the cost of the daily rental for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs. The excess is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time the accident report is completed, not at the completion of the rental. The excess will be refunded if Britz are successful in recovering the cost of the damages from the third party. Please note that third party claims can take months to resolve. The excess applies in respect of each claim, not rental.
Please see the ‘Exclusions’ section below, whereby all insurance cover will be made void. This AU$7,500 excess can be reduced, in most circumstances, by the purchase of excess reduction option 1, excess reduction option 2 or the no worries cover option.
Excess Reduction Option 1
Here are the excess levels on the vehicles we rent under this option:
2WD: AU$2,500
4WD: AU$2,500
Excess Reduction Option 2
Here are the excess levels on the vehicles we rent under this option:
2WD NIL
4WD AU$440
The cost of these policies is detailed at the time of booking.
When excess reduction 2 has been purchased, the hirer will have no excess at all for 2wd vehicles with the exception of the ‘exclusions’. In the event of the vehicle hired being a 4wd the hirer will be responsible for the first AU$440 (“the excess”) of the cost of damage to third party property or to the rented vehicle. This includes single vehicle accident, windscreen and tyre damage, towing and recovery costs, theft, fire, break-in or vandalism with the exception of the ‘exclusions’. This also includes the cost of the daily rental for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs. The excess applies in respect of each claim, not rental. Note: Excess Reduction Option 2 is included in the Britz Bonus Pack
Please see the ‘Exclusions’ section below, whereby all insurance cover will be made void.
No Worries Cover Option (PCO2) The No Worries Cover Option is a one off fee which differs from 2WD & 4WD vehicles
The No Worries Cover Option is only available when Excess Reduction 2 has been purchased.
Note the No Worries Cover Option is included in the Britz Bonus Pack.
With the No Worries Cover Option, the hirer will not have to pay any excess at all for any damage to the vehicle or property of a third party with the exception of the ‘exclusions’. This will include accidental overhead or underbody damage to the vehicle. Please note overhead and underbody damage cover is excluded unless the no worries cover option has been purchased.
Insurance options for Rookie
The Britz Rookie is unique, and as such, has different insurance options to the campervans:
Your daily rental rates include standard protection, where you leave an AU$1800 bond, which will be debited to your credit card. This amount is held as your excess. To reduce that excess to Nil you can pay an extra AU$19 per day. If you purchase the excess reduction option the security deposit is AU$220, which is recorded as an imprint against your credit card when the vehicle is collected. All debited bonds (plus any other credit card transactions) are subject to a 1.5% credit card surcharge in addition to the bond amount. This surcharge is refunded when the bond is refunded. If a bond is retained the surcharge is retained.Don’t forget to check that your credit card has the funds available and that the amount does not exceed your daily withdrawal allowance.
TYRE AND WINDSCREEN DAMAGE – Where the hire has a nil excess up to one windscreen and two tyres will be covered for accidental damage. Should these amounts be exceeded the cost to repair or replace the items will not be covered and will be the responsibility of the hirer.
BRITZ STRONGLY RECOMMENDS OUR CUSTOMERS TAKE NO WORRIES COVER FOR TRAVEL WITH COMPLETE PEACE OF MIND.
EXCLUSIONS:
All insurance cover will be made void if any of the following ‘Exclusions’ are breached:
1. Overhead and underbody damage to the vehicle – except where no worries cover has been purchased.
2. Any water related damage which includes, but is not limited to:
a) any vehicle submersion
b) creek or river crossing
c) driving through low plain flooded areas
d) beach driving
3. Personal belongings. Britz recommends the hirer does not leave valuables in the vehicle and that they have insurance to cover for the loss/damage of personal belongings.
4. Any damage caused by willful misconduct (e.g. sitting or standing on the bonnet or roof of the vehicle).
5. Any damage caused while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
6. The incorrect use of fuel (fuel being diesel or petrol) or contaminated fuel. The hirer will be responsible for any associated cost.
7. The cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle, which may include, but is not limited to a vehicle that has become bogged, submerged or has been abandoned.
8. The cost to replace keys, which have been lost or retrieval of keys, which have been locked in a vehicle.
9. The vehicle rented may only be used to carry the maximum number of passengers as dictated by the vehicle type. If more passengers are carried than what is allowed Britz does not accept any liability.
10. Drivers not identified on the rental agreement and/or drivers that have a licence that has been cancelled or suspended and/or drivers who have a licence that is classified as a learners or probationary licence.
VEHICLE SECURITY DEPOSIT#
Upon vehicle collection, a security deposit is required. The amount is determined by the Excess Reduction Option selected. For security purposes, only a credit card can be used to provide a vehicle security deposit. The credit card holder must be present and able to sign for the vehicle security deposit upon vehicle collection. The credit card holder is jointly and severally liable for any damage to the rental vehicle.
# In the USA a vehicle security deposit is referred to as the “deductible”. All debited bonds are subject to a 1.5% credit card surcharge in addition to the bond amount. This surcharge is refunded when the bond is refunded. If a bond is retained the surcharge is retained. If an Excess Reduction Option is not selected, the security deposit is AU$7,500 payable by credit card.
The AU$7500 is debited to the hirer’s credit card when the vehicle is collected. For this reason it is important that the hirer have the funds available on the credit card and that the amount does not exceed the hirer’s daily withdrawal allowance available on the credit card.
If Excess Reduction Option 1 has been taken the security deposit is AU$2,500.
The AU$2500 is debited to the hirer’s credit card when the vehicle is collected. For this reason it is important that the hirer have the funds available on the credit card and that the amount does not exceed the hirer’s daily withdrawal allowance available on the credit card.
If Excess Reduction Option 2 is selected with or without No Worries Cover or the package booked is the Bonus Pack the security deposit is AU$220 for 2WD vehicles or $AU440 for 4WD vehicles. The AU$220/$440 is taken as an imprint to the hirer’s credit card when the vehicle is collected. An imprint
simply records a figure against the hirers credit card of AU$220/$440 that Britz can then debit if required.
The security deposit is fully refundable provided the vehicle is returned on time, to the correct location, undamaged, with a clean interior and with full fuel tanks (fuel being petrol or diesel) and gas bottle. Except where the customer has purchased PGO (PGO is included in the Britz bonus pack) and/or Pre Purchase Fuel
(PPF), failure to return the vehicle with full petrol or diesel tanks and/or a full LPG bottle will result in refill charges, which will be advised upon return of the vehicle.
